This International Womens Day we took a look at gender issues in our industry: Women are well represented in the #Optical Industry as a whole as according to the GOC, 62% of qualified professionals are female. However, this representation does not seem to manifest at the Practice Owner level - only 24% of the first-named owners in our database are women and it doesn’t look like it is changing soon as only 26% of the prospective purchasers registered on our website are female.
Yet Practice Ownership can be an excellent career option for women.
In our recent Optical Insights (Salary) Survey we asked Practice Owners what they enjoyed most about running their own business - here’s what some of the women who answered had to say:
- The independence from owning and managing my own time
- Freedom to choose suppliers
- Choose my working hours
- The diversity of experience
- Patient satisfaction
- Growing Freedom
- Autonomy, money
- Patient satisfaction and business growth
- The autonomy Get a buzz out of a job well done
- Enjoying seeing the growth of the business
- Professional choice
This International Women’s Day we want to encourage more female Optometrists and Opticians to take the first step towards owning their own practice - register as a buyer on our website to browse our practices for sale
